Etienne (61), originally from Wezembeek-Oppem Belgium, was brutally murdered on his estate, the Cornwall Game Lodge, near the border with Botswana on 26th February 2010. He was attacked and kidnapped at the farm gate. The perpetrators drove Etienne, in his own vehicle to a watering hole on the farm, where they tied up his hands and feet and cut his throat. His body was found later that night on a remote part of the farm.
On 26th February 2010 while he was inspecting his estate, Cammaerts was attacked by robbers, who murdered the Belgian.
Only after a large-scale search by friends and police, including a helicopter was deployed, did they find his body. His hands and feet were bound, and his throat had been slit. His partner, Ingrid was unharmed.
The parents of Cammaerts, who still live in Wezembeek-Oppem, were informed by Ingrid.
A dozen years ago, Etienne sold his courier company Distridi. With the proceeds, the successful businessman left for South Africa. He wanted to build a new life with his girlfriend Ingrid.
