Biography

Henry Hill Field, Jr. was born in 1831 in Culpeper, Virginia, USA, Eufaula, Alabama, United States. His parents were Henry Hill Field and Dianna Field. Eufaula City was a major supply center for the Confederate army and was involved in the naval component of the Confederate war effort. Eufaula's strategic position on the Chattahoochee River allowed the city to construct at least one ironclad warship. The CSA also operated a military hospital in Eufaula. Henry's wife left Alabama to her family in Arkansas feeling it would be safer for her and her young son. Sadly, their son died in 1861 in Arkansas.

Henry married Sarah C Field on November 3, 1853, in Barbour, Alabama, USA. Together they had the following children:
Henry Colin Field.

He died in the Battle of Spanish Fort on April 8, 1865, in Baldwin County, Alabama, as part of the Mobile Campaign of the Western Theater of the American Civil War. and was buried in Eufaula, Barbour County, Alabama, United States of America.

Death: Battle of Spanish Fort April 8, 1865, in Baldwin County, Alabama, as part of the Mobile Campaign of the Western Theater of the American Civil War.

After the Union victory in the Battle of Mobile Bay, Mobile nevertheless remained in Confederate hands. Spanish Fort was heavily fortified as an eastern defense to the city of Mobile. Fort Huger, Fort (Battery) Tracey, Fort (Battery) McDermott, Fort Alexis, Red Fort, and Old Spanish Fort were all part of the Mobile defenses at Spanish Fort.
