About Jacob "Jockel" Brumbaugh, I

A Patriot of the American Revolution for PENNSYLVANIA. DAR Ancestor # A203616
Note- Identified as 'Jacob Brumback'.
SAR Patriot #: P-123538

Jacob was married twice; his second wife's first name was Elizabeth. Do not merge with Jacob Brumback who was married to Mary Elizabeth Angle. This Jacob died in Pennsylvania, the other Jacob died in Maryland.

The name of his first wife is unknown. They had six children: William, John, Margaret, Conrad, Jacob, and Hannah. She died 1776/1777.
Jacob then married Elizabeth. They had 9 children: Henry, George, Daniel, Catharine, Samuel, Ester, Mary, David, and Susan.

Often confused in genealogical lists with Johann Jacob Brumbaugh (FAG ID-158346036) who was a cousin of this Jacob's father. (Also more info on the cousin can be found at JacobBrumbaugh.com)

His Second Wife, who he is linked to this memorial, was a BAKER not an Angle. Mary Elizabeth Angle was wife of the above mentioned Johann, not "Jockel"

(Johannes Henrich7, Christoffel6 Brombach, Casper5 Brombach, Jost4 Brombach, Hannes Shons3 Brombach, Jost2 Brumback, Tilman1 Brumback)

Family Stories:

In about 1760 married and settled on a tract of land near "Funkstown" --Hagerstown, Md., near Johann Jacob Brumbach (a cousin). About 1777 Jacob and his brother Georg (called "Yerrick" or "Yorrick") moved with the earliest pioneers to Morrison's Cove, then in Bedford Co., PA, now Blair Co., and located near the Rebecca Furnace property, occupying a large tract of land.

The Indian outbreaks of 1778 and 1779 caused all the early settlers to leave that locality and these brothers returned to their former homes on the Conecocheague river in Maryland--perhaps also Antrim Twp., Franklin Co., PA. After the cessation of the Indian depredations these brothers re-occupied their Bedford Co. lands.

In 1794 Jacob moved across the mountain into Woodcock Valley, Huntington Co, PA and soon bought 219 acres on the south side of Warrior Ridge called "Timothy Meadows" and lived there continuously until his death. The picture of the remains of his original homestead is included on this memorial.

Page 360 of Gaius Brumbaugh's book states the following about Jacob's final resting place. "Mr. George Garner [E18-v], b Oc. 26,1821, of Aitch, Pa., says [E2] Jacob was buried in Grove Cemetery, near the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River, in Woodcock Valley, and that the rough headstone was marked "J.B." Others say the grave was near the Entrekin Mill, close to the mouth of James Creek." Gaius was a direct descendant of Jacob. His father Andrew, searched the stated areas for Jacob's grave site, but did not find it.

I placed his memorial in the Union Cemetery, where his wife, Elizabeth, is buried. His wife's grave marker includes his name with his birth and death dates engraved on it as well. RG3
