About John Hoblit, of Pennsylvania
Born 3-26-1781 Swiickle, Pa. Son of Johannes (Michael) and Anna (Katherine) Hoblit.
John married Millicent Steward and fathered 11 children, all born in Ohio.
John was one of the first settlers of Atlanta Township, Illinois. John, son Sam, and Michael Mann, a baptist preacher, traveled to Illinois circa 1826-27 on a land prospecting trip. They had two horses between the three of them so took turns walking. John staked two claims of eight acres (Section 27 and 33). He then returned to Ohio and relocated his wife and unmarried children to Illinois. His married children and families soon followed. His sister Sarah and husband, Thomas Lucas also moved to Illinois but settled in the Lake Fork country.
John remained on the farm until his death September 5, 1844. He was buried near Atlanta in the cemetery his son Samuel had donated the land for.
