About John Wildman of Bentham
Tatham parish weddings
- 1594 Wildman Thomas married Bolderstone Jennet √ 20-Aug
- 1598 Wildman Edmond married Swinglehurst Ellen √ 15-Oct
- 1603 Wildman John married Hathornwaite Ellen √ 31-Jan ~•we once guessed that John is Martin’s 07. brother. (this may not be the case, Mar. 2020 MMvB) BUt maybe there is another John WIldman father acandidate for Ellen?
- 1609 Wildman Martin married Thomton, Ellen √ 11-Feb ( Pennsyl. Quaker scion)
- there is another brother: Robert Wildman of Tunstall
- note: In an effort to unify the Wildmans who became Quakers, it is significant to point out that many of John's descendants were Quakers in North Yorkshire just as many of the descendants of Martin Wildman.... but they do not seem to be brothers because Martin's mother would have been to young to bear John.
There is an unexplored possibility: Martin and John may be half-brothers with different mothers.
Ingleton parish christening
- 1624 Apr 04 ; Ellen filia John Wildman de Bentham nihill ; p.11
- Ellen the child named for Ellen Hathornewaite?
- there are two Wildman men of Bentham in Ingleton to baptize children ... for some reason John and Martin (are they brothers?
Settle MM marriage records
reveal that RG6/1116 James known son of Martin m. Jenet Bland, dau of John at house of John Wildman at Bentham 18th day 3rd mo. 1684. This "house of John Wildman is prob. not the same John, but it may be a close relation.
Research Questions
- Is Robert Wildman who married Ann Skirrow c. 1626 the son of this John WIldman? (a guess based on Skirrow at Settle MM) (also: perhaps we've a match at "Blise"(Ellen?) Wildman (née Hathornwaite was buried c/o Settle MM in 1670)
