Church of England marriage record in Tatham

Four candidate couples for this generation

  • Edward Wildman of Tatham parish and Elizabeth Walker icn_favorite.gif < my best guess... but it's only an educated guess...
    • Edward Wildman married Elizabeth Walker in 1582 at Ch. of E. , Tatham parish
  • Thomas Wildman married Agnes Swan (Tatham parish Latin records) 23 April 1577
    • a 1577 marriage year is a possible match for the parentage of Martin Wildman who married in the same parish
    • Question: Did Agnes Swan die afet a few years of maariage and then did Thomas remarry Jenney Bolderstone?
  • William Wildman married Jennet Bateson (Tatham parish) 14 May 1584 also a good candidate
  • Wildman, Thomas married Bolderstone, Jennet 20-Aug 1594
    • (Note for Quaker line studies) Thomas and Jennet marry to late to be the parents of Martin Wildman who married in 1609) (unless Martin married at age 15 (!))

general comments

As far as this particular line of the Wildmans go, the Tatham parish area gave rise to the sub-group of Wildmans who decided to join the then new Quaker faith. For geographical reasons it would be more difficult to envision that Martin's parents came from another parish. Martin's children rubbed shoulders with the children of other families such as the Blands, Skirrows, Marshalls, Hathornwaites, many of whom were also Quaker pioneers. (See the Settle project)

Historically, the Wildmans are known to have helped with establishment of the Low Bentham Mtg. that was associated with Settle. The existing records are co-mingled in the online files.

Research observations

Martin Wildman married Ellen Thornton in 1609 (Tatham parish) but the couple doesn't seems to have lived in nearby Bentham. One son George was baptized in 1624 in Ingleton. There is no known baptism record for another son Matthew (b.c.1620).
It is important to note that Bentham, Ingleton and Tatham are not far from each other.
