Mary was the daughter of Samuel How/Howe and his wife, Martha, of Sudbury, Massachusetts. Mary married Thomas Barnes on 14 Apr 1685 in Marlborough, Massachusetts. They had 7 children:
She received a land grant in her own right in Brookfield. "Novem-- 17th 1714. Laid out to Mary Barns the Wife of Thomas Barns By vertue of a Grant made Septem-- the 17th 1714: Bound westerly upon her Husband's Land Thomas Barnes: the rest all Round upon the Commons being Seventy Rods west(?) of the south End and fifty at the north End and one Hundred and Sixty Rods in Length. having four stone(?) markers one att each Corner with E: Being Sixty Acres, viz. thirty acres of upland the lei? (Lieu?) of fifteen of Meadow."[3]
Mary died on 4 Feb 1719 in Brookfield, Worcester, Province of Massachusetts Bay aged 53.[4]
