About Matthew Wildman
We do not have a record of Matthew being baptized in Tatham Parish... just discovered (Feb. 2022) The following citation most likely pertains to him thereby eliminating many speculative links to Tatham parish
Here's the citation which suggest that he parents of Matthew are not Martin and Ellen (Thornton). His father is Christopher.
Name: Mathew Wildman
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 22 Feb 1610 (old style = 1611 new style)

Christofer Wildman
Mathew Wildman
in the England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
Matthew, we know, predeceased his wife: This is noted when Elizabeth is reported by Besse to have died a widow in the Lancaster Castle jail (Jan 1677). Also, take a look at the hearth tax records. This, too, indicates that Elizabeth was the widow of Matthew
~• Alternately, there is a record of a Matthew Wildman dying later... in the same parish where Elizabeth (daughter?) was baptized. "Text: Matthew Wildman 21st Oct 1664
Book: Burialls. (Burial)
Collection: Lancashire: Caton, Claughton, Gressingham, Hornby, Tatham - Caton Parish Register, 1585-1718, Claughton, 1701-1813, Gressingham, 1676-1828, Hornby, 1742-1789, and Tatham, 1558-181x.
Persecution and imprisonment of his wife
from Quakers/ Notes from A collection of the Sufferings of the People called Quakers
- Joseph Besse
- Printed Luke Hinde, London 1753 Two volumes.
- Copy in YAS, Leeds Index of names in volume II
• for an appreciation of the cultural history of the Quaker exodus to Bucks Co. Pa. consider consultation of Albion's Seed , especially the so-called 'third wave' of emigration from the England's Midlands.
• The Tatham Hearth Tax Returns 1664, 1666 and 1673 seems to indicate that Matthew died after the 1664 survey for the hearth tax and before the one in 1666.
Future Research to develop the Wildman tree in Tatham Parish
- Notice that there are other WIldmans living in Tatham at this time: Edward, George and Isacke. Also, there are two other Wildman households in neighboring Botton: Richard and Thomas
- Matthew and Elizabeth's son Martin married Ann Ward at the Home of George Bland in connection with the Settle MM. The date was September 9, 1678
- The Wildmans and the Blands have prior surname relationship in Tatham:.....a marriage is recorded in Tatham Parish on 23 Aug 1653 between Giles Bland & Agnes Wildman ~• < Agnes may be a sister or (some kind of) cousin of Matthew Wildman
- look further in the discussion.
- Locally in the late 15 and early 1600s there were numerous Wildman men who married. It is difficult to determine the pedigrees if it can be done at all. See: Wildman and related families of the Lancashire Yorkshire border (1500s through 1600s)
- on GENi there is William Wildman, II of Tatham Fells. He looks to be a close relative
