About Otto Heinemann
Otto was Merchant in Berlin (1904 Carl Lindström record company). In 1914 he emigrated to the USA and founded a record company Odeon Records. Then in 1918 founded OKeh Records, later sold it to Columbia Grammophone Company, worked as director there; OKeh records is now owned by the Sony Corporation. Otto's wife, Recha („Re“) Heinemann nee Zuntz, born Aug 26, 1879, died 1984 (aged 104) , New York.
From Murkhein Heinemann: Otto gained fame founding one of the first phonograph companies in the United States. His company OKEH recorded Louis Armstrong, Billy Holiday and many others (he was one of the first to hire black musicians). He sold his company to Columbia Records where he remained as director until shortly before his death. They had an interesting circle of friends including Hermann Hesse and the conductor George Szell.
Otto sponsored many family members coming to the US when they fled Germany.
