CENSUS DATA FOR NEWTON CHARLES DARBY:

1850 Forsyth County, GA (At home, p. 158a)

1860 Dug Road, Pickens County, GA (At home, p. 885)

1870 Jasper, Pickens County, GA (p. 15b) -- Newton C. (25, GA), Clarinda (40, NC), Elizabeth (11, GA) and Susannah (1, GA) Darby, living near Newton's mother, Nancy [Biddy] Darby

-- and --

1870 Jasper, Pickens County, GA (p. 13a) -- Newton (26, GA), Clarinda (22, GA), Elizabeth (4, GA) and Catherine (2, GA) Darby, living next do or to Newton's brother and sister-in-law, James and Narcissa C. Darby, and to his brother-in-law and sister, Wm J. and Arminda Wilson, and their families

NOTE about the 1870 census: Newton and Clarinda appear twice in the 1870 Pickens County census. There is a substantial discrepancy in ages between the two entries. I believe that the second entry (at p. 13a) more accurately reflects the actual ages of the family members based on other available information. Also, one entry lists a child named Susannah (age 1), and the other a Catherine (age 2). I believe that Susannah and Catherine are the same person, i.e., Catherine Susannah or Susannah Catherine. By combining Susannah and Catherine into one person, that gives Newton and Clarinda a total of 6 children, which is consistent with the 1900 and 1910 census (6 children, 5 living, in both)
