They lived at 220 South 6th Street, Newark. In the 1925 NY Census, Charles, Sadie and Melvin (age 1 year) lived at 390 Hooper Street in Williamsburgh, Brooklyn. Charles was listed as shoe salesman. According to the 1930 census, Charles and Sadie Levine lived at 755 Springfield Ave, Irvington, NJ with children Melvin L (age 5) and Charlotte (age 3 1/12). Charles was listed as store owner. They left NJ after 1935. In 1940 census, the family lived at 191 Bement Court, Staten Island. Charles worked in candy store. According to Sadie's grandson (Charlotte's son) Martin Klein," Charlotte married Bernard Klein and had two children, Lynn and Martin. Martin was 6 years old when Sadie died. She was 64 when she died. We lived in Brooklyn and Sadie and her husband Charlie lived below us in a two family house. My mother grew up in Elizabeth New Jersey when she was a child. They owned a successful shoe store. Around World War Two, their was a Nazi movement in the area that attacked local businesses that were owned by Jews. I know this was a painful time for the family. They fled to Staten Island and bought a Candy store at 99 Stuyvesant Place. They went through hard times, and lived behind the store. Seth's Grandfather, Melvin, took over the store. It was a high light of my childhood to take the ferry to Staten Island, help out in the store and drink egg creams. Lynn married Ken and they have two children named Leah and Elyse. I have twins, named Charlotte and Jonathan. My sister Lynn is 6 years older than me. Lynn is a retired audiologist and now is a practicing yoga instructor".
