About Sarah Crampton

Birth and parents

Birth date is derived from this fact: [Andrew Hull] Admission to New Haven [church] by 4 October 1640 implied by baptism of children.

Sarah Hull was baptized 4 October.1640 in New Haven, Connecticut.

Her parents were NOT Henry Goldham, and an unknown mother. According to http://tokala.net/MungerBook/index.htm, Goldham was Nicholas Munger's step-father, Nicholas' mother being Frances (Walter) Munger Goldham.

The Munger book also has Sarah's parents as William and Esther Hall (p. xvi). But William and Esther were married in 1648 or 1649, and Sarah was supposedly born c. 1640 and married in 1659, so if these dates are correct these parents are highly unlikely.

On several occasion between 6 June 1654 and 3 November 1657. Richard Beech wife of Andrew's widow] was in Court making arrangements, prior to his departure from New Haven. for paying the legacies due to his two stepdaughters; on 15 December 1654, Hannah Hull was stated to be "now at age," but Sarah Hull was not so described [NHTR l:2ld, 220-21, 228-29, 231, 328].

RICHARD HULL {1639, New Haven} was apparently brother of this immigrant [NHTR 1:69; FANH 372].

COMMENTS. Many secondary sources assume that the Andrew Hull of the 1635 passenger list is identical with the man of the same name who appeared five years later at New Haven. This is certainly a reasonable assumption, and we have followed it here in the absence of any strong evidence to the contrary. We should, however, treat this identification with some circumspection. First, we have no record of the 1635 passenger anywhere in New England for five years after his supposed arrival, a circumstance which has frequently led us to reject identifications of this nature. Second, if we further assume, as all secondary sources have, that the Katherine Hull who was on the same ship in 1635 was the wife of Andrew Hull and after his death married Richard Beech, we have the curious situation that nowhere among the many records created by Richard Beech is the given name of his wife stated [Beach Family Magazine 1 (1926):6-7]. Further research on Richard Beech in his later residences, especially in New Jersey, might turn up a record which would relieve this difficulty.
