Simon Linn, 45, appears in the 1850 US Census as living in Montour Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania with his wife Rebecca Linn, 42, and their children George, 17, William S. 16, Henry 14, Rebecca 13, Susanna 11, Simon 9, Maria 7, Daniel 5, and John, 1 month old. Additionally Simon Linn's 91 year old mother Elizabeth Linn, 91, was living with them in 1850. Previous family history had stated that Simon had possibly been born in Germany but on the 1850 census Simon stated that he was born in Pennsylvania. Additionally, his son William S. Linn stated on the 1880 census that both his parents Simon and Rebecca Linn were born in Pennsylvania.

Per the 1860 US Census Simon, 49, was living with his wife Rebecca, 46, and their children George, 27, William, 24, Henry, 22, Susan, 19, Simon, 17, Barbara, 8, and Mary, 54, in Mountour Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania. Mary Hauck (Simon's sister-in-law) was living with the family.

Per the 1870 (June 4, 1870) Census Simon Lynn, 62, and Rebecca Lynn, 59, are listed as living in Montour Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania. Simon listed his occupation as Laborer, while Rebecca listed her's as keeping house. They lived with or in close proximity to their Daughter Barbara Ellen, 17, her husband David Lavan (Levan), 32, and their grandson Charles, 7 months old. In the 1870 Census Simon's birth year was estimated to be abt 1808.

Per the 1880 Census Rebecca Linn, 75, is widowed, and living with her sister Mary Hauck, 67, who is also widowed, in Mifflin Township of Columbia County, Pennsylvania. Per the 1880 Census both Rebecca and Mary list their parents as being born in Germany. It is believed that Rebecca's maiden name was Spring or Springer.

Estate documents confirm that Simon Linn of Montour Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania died on Monday, September 24, 1877 between 2 and 3 p.m. in the afternoon.

Letters of Administration on the Estate of Simon Linn, late of Montour Township, Columbia County deceased. Be it remembered that on the 24th day of October A.D. 1877 Letters of Administration in due and common form of land were granted by W. H. Jacoby, Register of the Probate of Wills and Granting Letters of Administration in and for the County of Columbia unto Peter M. Kershner, Administrator of all and singular the goods and chattels rights and credits which were of Simon Linn, late of Montour township, Columbia County, deceased [See Widows renunciation filed with Bond] The said Administrator having first put in as his sureties Peter S.(M.?) Kershner and Daniel Baylor in the sum of Four Hundred Dollars, and having also been duly sworn to Administrator said estate well and truly and according to law, relating to collateral inheritances. Before me, W. H. Jacoby, Register.

Columbia County, SS: I Peter M. Kershner being duly sworn according to law do depose and say that Simon Linn late of Montour township, said County died on Monday the 24th day of September A.D. 1877 between the hours of 2 and 3 o'clock in the afternoon of said day, to the best of my knowledge and belief.
