About William Albert Engel *
Copied from data supplied by Peggy Engel-Steinke-Gamma niece of Bertha (Engel) Miller who is grandmother of Pat Fluno. William Engel was a brother of Bertha.
"Little is known about William Albert Engel. He was 22 years old when he married Isabelle Smolarek. She was only 16 when they married July 25, 1925. In May of 1928 William was fishing in the Wisconsin River near Nekoosa. He fell into the river and then came down with pleural pneumonia and died one week later. Isabelle was a widow at age 19 left with 2 young boys, Charles born 9-17-1925 and Robert born 5-5-1927. She could not raise the two boys by herself and left them with their grandparents, William and Anna Engel. Charles was raised to manhood by his grandparents."
Robert was taken in by his aunt and uncle John and Bertha Miller and raised by them. He kept the Engel. name until he was going into the service after high school. He than asked to be officially adopted by John and Bertha and given the Miller name which they did.

Deceased is survived by his wife Isabelle Smolarek Engel, 2 sons aged 1 year and 2 years, four sisters; Mrs. John F. Miller, Mrs. Fred Whitrock, Mrs. William Kegler, and Mrs. Avolt Marzofka, and three brothers, Glen, Roy, and Raymond, and his parents..
Deceased was born January 24, 1903 in this city, attended the West Side Lutheran parochial school and Lincoln high school. for the last four years he has been employed at the American Carbonic Machinery Company. In 1925 he was married In 1925 he was married to Isabelle Smolarek.
