Bure family

Bure family is since the 1600s a collective term for families of male or female line descended from a family that comes from Bure in Skelleftea - Sweden, current Bureå. Descendants of Bure The family is usually called Bure Descendants. Some family lines and individuals have borne the names Bure, Burman and Burenskold. The family has produced several of the Great Swedish prominent men within Church and Literature, including the multilearned Johan Bure (Latinized Johannes Bureus), one of 1600's prominence figures. Bureås municipality coat of arms is formed after the noble branch of Bures coat of arms.

Family Bure is written down on the so-called Bureus stone which is inside the southern port of Uppsala Cathedral. Bureus stone, originally tombstone of John Bureus parents, were removed in the 1960s, but reinstated in 2009. The oldest trail of Bure's family tree is a typical genealogy from the late Renaissance, which does not distinguish between fairy tale and reality.

Bure DNA

The Swedish DNA project and Peter Sjölund has verified both patrilinear (strictly male) and matrilinear (strictly female) Bure lines,

"Old Olof" (Gamle Olof), born about 1390-1400, is the earliest DNA verified memberof the Bure family. Several of his sons belonged to Y-DNA haplogroup G2a (G-L497+).

The noble family after Laurentius Svenonis was connected to the Bure family through his wife. Several of his sons belonged to Y-DNA haplogroup R1b.

The following MtDNA verified female line belonged to the Bure family:

The following DNA verified people shared Bure Y-DNA. They are believed to be ancestors to Gamle Olof, but their connection is unknown in documents:[http://sjolunds.se/dna/Bure/DNA-verifierade-burelinjer-2018-fullsiz...]

The following shared a variant of the Bure Y-DNA that branched during 1200s or 1300s, and were consequently not descendants of "Gamle Olof", but part of this project. Their connection to the Bure family is unknown:
