In Ireland, Foy was an anglicized form of O'Fiach (Gaelic for Hunter). Variants include Fay and Fahey.
Or was Foy the original name possibly of Hugenot origin?
It was both. There were several "origins" for the name, Viking "farewell feast or black as the Raven" ref to Odin's pets. In Belgium and France, it meant "Faith" As in St. Foy whose reliquary is in the Cathedral At Conques France. My Foy clan comes from County Mayo in Ireland.
