a1 Johan Gottfried GERICKE was born approximately 1741 in Harkerode (near Magdeburg in Germany) and arrived in the Cape in 1772 as a wagon maker in the service of the VOC and left the company in 1790.
He had an illegitimate daughter by Johanna Jacoba JURGENS in approx. 1772. He died on 21 Mar 1837 on the farm Geelhoutboom, in the district of Outeniqualand at the age of 96.
He was married on 9 Sep 1790 to Anna Barbara GERBER in Tulbagh. She was born circa 1774 in Cape Town and died on 20 Aug 1843 in George. She was the daughter of Frans Anthony GERBER and Catharina VAN DYK. Eleven children were born out of that union, seven of which were baptised in Swellendam.
