About the Komorowski surname

The Komorowski family is a Polish aristocratic family. They trace their roots back to Dymitr Komorowski (c1340-?) who was born circa 1340. They use the Korczak coat of arms. Piotr Komorowski, was appointed “Count of Liptov and Orava”, in 1469 by King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary. After the expiry of his descendants, the title "Count of Liptov and Orava" was used by Piotr’s brother Mikolaj Komoroski and his descendants. One of them, Jakub (d. 1781) obtained, in 1780 from King Stanislaw August, the confirmation of the title of Count. The members of the family, therefore, carry the title of Count, some would argue wrongly. Notable members of the family include: Bronisław Komorowski (1952-) the sitting President of Poland (my 7th cousin); Zygmunt Leon Komorowski (1925-1992), partisan fighter, poet, scholar, professor and Polish Ambassador to Bucharest; Juliusz Komorowski (1893-1982) a member of the anti-German Polish Military Organization and pirate; and Mathilde d'Udekem d'Acoz, Princess of Belgium, Duchess of Brabant (1973-), the wife of the heir to the Belgium throne (my 7th cousin once removed.)
