In the book about the jewish surname (Claude Mesrahi) édition A.J. Press it's written GOLD : from German and yiddish it mean gold, from the female name Golda, the name choosed by the jews from Austria and hungary when they were obliged to have a name. But, they had to pay for it. All had not the same price. The most expensive were the precious metal or the name of the flowers. The least expensive were the usual metal, and free, the name of animal. It was certainly in Germany people who work with gold. Pensonally, I cann't stopping me to think to "Hammer" ? Brigitte Akselrad
