About Clarine Westra
Clarine Westra, 85, of Orange City died Saturday, August 21, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
Funeral service was Tuesday, August 24, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of First Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiating. Interment was in West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
Mrs. Westra was born June 18, 1919, at Orange City, the daughter of Peter and Johanna Wilhelmina (Kleinwolterink) De Vries. She was raised on a farm between Sioux Center and Orange City. On December 14, 1938, she married Henry Westra at Bellflower, California. They lived in Bellflower a few years, and then moved to a farm southwest of Orange City. About 1950, they moved into Orange City. In July of 2002, she became a resident of the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. In September of 2002, she transferred to the Heritage House. In addition to being a homemaker, she was a nurse's aide at the Sioux Center Community Hospital for a few years. For about 20 years, she was an aide and ward clerk at the Orange City Municipal Hospital, a job she really enjoyed.
She was a member of First Reformed Church, where she participated in the women's organizations. She like sewing, handwork and caring for her flowers.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years; a son, Alvin Westra of Orange City; a daughter, Karen Brunemeier of Orange City; a granddaughter; and a brother, Peter De Vries of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bert, Herman and John De Vries; and six sisters, Johanna De Beer, Hattie De Groot, Myna Fallow, Arta Huisman, Dena Jonker and Winifred Van Muyden.
