About Dena Jonker
Mrs. Dena Jonker, age 88, of Orange City died Sunday, March 23, 1997 at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull of cancer.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 25 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. David Sterk officiated.
Burial was at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.
Dena was born April 14,1908 in rural Orange City, the daughter of Peter and Minnie (Kleinwolterink) De Vries.
On Jan. 30,1930 she married Clarence Jonker at Orange City. They made their home in Orange City where she was a homemaker and worked part-time outside the home.
Mr. Jonker died Feb. 20, 1988 at Orange City.
In the fall of 1993 she became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. She transferred to Pleasant Acres on Jan. 2, 1997.
Mrs. Jonker was a member of the First Reformed Church where she participated in a circle and the Senior Citizens. She enjoyed reading and visiting friends and family.
Survivors include her daughter, Muriel Van De Maaten of Ames; a son, Peter Evan Jonker of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren, Mary Van Der Maaten and Patty Sherman both of Cedar Rapids, Doug Jonker of Denver, Colo., and Denise Ostrowski of Linden, Mich.; and four sisters, Arta Huisman of Orange City, Hattie De Groot of Denver, Colo., Clarine Westra of Orange City and Mina Fallow of Davenport.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Bert, John and Herman De Vries; and two sisters, Johanna De Beer and Winnifred Van Muyden.
