Arta Huisman

Mrs. Arta De Vries Huisman, age 92 of Orange City, passed away Thursday, July 30, 1998 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City. Funeral services were held on Monday, August 3, 1998, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated. Interment followed at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City was in charge of arrangements.

Arta was born April 30, 1906 in Orange City, the daughter of Peter and Minnie (Kleinwolterink) De Vries. On December 28, 1928, at Orange City, she married William W. Huisman, the son of William and Hiltje (Groot) Huisman. They farmed near Orange City until 1949, when they moved into town. In 1993, Mr. and Mrs. Huisman became residents of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. "Bill" passed away May 23, 1996 in Orange City.

In 1996, Arta became a resident of the Heritage House. Survivors include there daughters and their husbands, Hazel and John W. Prather of Sun City, Arizona; Marvella and David Duistermars of Orange City; and Sharon and Donald Corrigan of Middlebury, Connecticut; seven grandchildren, Julie (Prather) Supplee, John W. Prather III, Shawn (Duistermars) Peuse, Dan Duistermars, Todd Duistermars, Karina Hiltje Corrigan, and Caitlin Atje Corrigan; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hattie De Groot of Denver, Colorado; Clarine Westra of Orange City; and Myna Fallow of Davenport; and a brother, Peter De Vries of Sioux City.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Johanna De Beer, Dena Jonker, and Winifred Van Muyden; and three brothers, John, Herman, and Bert De Vries. Memorials may be directed to World Vision.
