Cora Jane Spencer Good

Cora was born in Muskingum County, Ohio in January 27, 1864, the 4th of 11 children born to John M. and Mary C. (Dilts) Dodds. In about 1869 her family moved to southern Noble Township, Shelby County, Indiana.

She was married on October 14, 1882 in Shelby Co. to John A. Shuppard (spelled Shupperd in divorce and on both daughters marriages it is spelled Schubert). They had 2 daughters, Lola, born Sept. 24, 1883, md.1912 Marion Co., to Roy Underwood; and Mabel, born March 27, 1885, md.1907 Marion Co., to Wm.Newton Moore. Cora was divorced in 1890 and in April 1900, per census, was living in St.Paul with her daughters, as a hotel keeper (this was the Commercial Hotel).

Sometime later in 1900, she married James H. Spencer and they lived in Indianapolis per 1910 & 1920 Census. He then died in 1921 and is buried here next to Cora, along with her one dau., Mabel Moore (on same lot), who died in 1938.

Cora then married again on Nov. 25, 1925 to John Pearson Good, a widower who died in 1928 and is buried with his first wife in Fall Creek Union Cemetery.

In April 1930 Census, she is living at 1132 Millersville Rd. in Indianapolis, with her sister, Kathryn Boyd.

Note: Could not find any information about death or burial for Mabel's husband, William N. Moore, her sister Lola or her husband, Roy Underwood. There are 6 spaces on this lot, but only 3 being used.

              MRS. CORA JANE GOOD Mrs. Cora Jane Good, a resident of Irvington for many years, died yesterday of heart disease at her home, 4132 Sutherland Avenue.

Mrs. Good was born in Roseville, Ohio in 1864. She came to Indianapolis before [in] 1900, and in that year was married to J. H. Spencer, who died in 1921. She was married to John P. Good, prominently identified with the early business history of Indianapolis, in 1925. He died two years ago.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Ray [Roy] Underwood of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Mrs. William H. [N.] Moore of Aberdeen, Md., and two step-daughters, Mrs. Alice Holloway of Indianapolis and Mrs. Claude Pyburn of Atlanta, Ga.
