Their daughter Janet Campbell married Thomas Haliburton of Dryburgh Abbey and New Mains. Their daughter Barbara Haliburton married Robert Scott of Sandyknowe, grandfather of Sir Walter Scott, Baronet, the celebrated novelist and poet.

Their eldest son John Coutts, born 1699, was a banker and Lord Provost of Edinburgh in 1741/ Their son Thomas Coutts, founded the famous London firm of Coutts and Co. Thus Jean Dunlop was the great-great-grandmother of Georgina Angela Burdett, Baroness Burdett-Coutts.
