John T Hart, III

John T. Hart was a son, born to John T. Hart, Jr. and Elishea 'Elitia' Parks, circa 1847 at Accomack County, VA.

[Please Note: I have added III to John's name in order to keep down the confusion of all of the men in the family named John Hart.]

The 1850 Census lists John with his parents at St. George Parish, Accomack County, VA. He is shown as John Hart, age 3 in HH #277 headed by John Hart, a 38 year old laborer.

The 1860 Census lists John with his parents at Onancock, St. George Parish, Accomac County, VA. He was shown as John 'L' age 12 in HH #582 headed by John Hart, a 49 year old farmer & his wife, Elishea, age 49.

On February 4, 1869, John T. Hart married Nancy S. Gray, the daughter of Thomas Gray & Margaret Ann 'Nancy' Melson at Accomack County, VA. He was shown as John T. Hart, a 21 year old oysterman and She was shown as Nancy S. Gray, age 19.

The 1880 Census lists John as head of household at Accomack County, VA. He was shown as J.T. Hart, a 33 year old oystering & fisherman. Listed with him were the following Harts: Nancy Hart, a 33 year old wife & housekeeper; W.S. Hart, a 10 year old son at school; B.S. Hart, an 8 year old daughter at school; L.T. Hart, a 6 year old daughter and R.L. Hart, a 2 year old daughter.

The known children of John T. Hart and Nancy S. Gray are:

William S. Hart (b ca 1850); B.S. Hart (b ca 1872); Elishia T. Hart (b ca 1874 - d 1944) and Rachel L. Hart (b ca 1878).
