Obituary: Chicago Heights Star - Tuesday April 8, 1947
Conduct Final Rites for Martin Lustig, 74
Funeral services were held at ten am yesterday from the west end chapel to St Ann's Church, with the reverend Celestine Zeitler officiating., for Martin Lustig 63 West Nineteenth street, who died Saturday after a long illness. Burial was at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Lustig, who was 74 years old, was a Chicago Heights resident for many years.
Survivors are his wife, Lena; four sons Herbert, Louis, Gerald and Ray; 12 grandchildren; two brothers; and one sister. One son, Leonard preceded him in death.
MARTIN LUSTIG
Martin Lustig was born on December 31, 1872, the son of Martin Sr. and Katherine (Roos) Lustig of Island Grove. He married Lena Einhorn on May 18, 1896 at St Joseph Catholic Church. Lena was born on August 16, 1871in Alsace to Joseph and Maria (Weishaar) Einhorn. Lena's parents had brought their family to the United States and settled in the Island Grove community. Martin and Lena lived on what was the Marvin Haack farm. The old place still stands. Martin and Lena had five sons: Herbert, who married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Meinhart, Leonard, Louis, who married Ellen Westendorf, Gary, and Raymond "Ray", born November 16, 19O9.
The four oldest boys left the farm to live and work in Chicago Heights, Illinois, USA. Ray, the youngest, stayed on for a while. In 1930, at the age of 21, Ray with his parents, left the farm and, also, moved to Chicago Heights where they became members of St Ann Church. Ray married Esther Lowen of Harvey, Illinois May 25, 1935. They were the parents of three children: Ray , who died three days after birth, Donald and Sharon Rae. Ray and Esther moved to Effingham in 1990 after their daughter, Sharon Rae, married Donald Helmink of Island Grove. Ray died on December 3, 1991and his wife Esther died on December 5, 1994.
Martin passed away after a long illness on April 4, 1947, which was Good Friday, at the age of 74. Survivors were his wife, Lena; four sons Herbert, Louis, Gerald and Ray;12 grandchildren; two brothers and a sister. One son, Leonard, preceded him in death.
Lena passed away suddenly the morning of October 8, 1956, while getting ready to go to daily Mass. She was 85. The funeral masses were held at St Ann's Church in Chicago, Heights, Illinois, USA.
