About Nellie E Bunting

Married May 10, 1911 Nellie E. Lawrence was born January 7, 1894 to George and Nancy Strait Lawrence on a farm near Brooks, Iowa and passed away March 21, 1973 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Corning, following a short illness, at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 14 days. She was united in marriage to Pearl J. Bunting, May 10, 1941, who preceded her in death in June 1962. Shew was also preceded in death by one grandson, Ronald Bunting, who was killed in Vietnam in 1968, while serving in the U.S. Army; three sisters, Emma, Phoebe, and Dollie, and three brothers, Rolly, Jake, and Floyd Lawrence. Survivors include her son, Kenneth and wife, Wilma; a daughter Rowena and husband William Gearheart, all of Corning; two granddaughters and their husbands: Jackie and Jack Kretzinger of Corning, and Jean and Duane Young of Shenandoah; one grandson and wife Phil and Marcella Gearheart of Corning; Five great-grandchildren, Mona Joe and Danny Kretzinger and Bruce, Brenda, and Scott Young; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie Schafroth, Mrs. Ruby Harlow, and Mrs. Bessie Pell; sister-in-law, Carrie Richards and Mrs. Eva Bradley, all of Corning; a brother-in-law, Walker Cooper of Creston, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mrs. Bunting spent her entire life in Adams County. She was a member of the Adams County First Baptist Church and later transferred her membership to the Corning First Baptist Church, which she attended and serves as long as health permitted. Funeral services were held at the Roland Funeral Home in Corning, March 23 at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Rev. Paul Williams. Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Music was provided by Donna Peckham. Pallbearers were Frank Davis, Rolly Spring, Keith Hadley, Jess Brown, Roger Peterson, and Vera Richards. Adams County Free Press, March 29, 1973, page 2
