About Floyd Lovel Lawrence, Sr

Floyd Lovel Lawrence was born February 9, 1890, one of a family of ten children, the son of George T. and Nancy Emeline Lawrence, and passed away at the Veterans' Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, Thursday, December 4, 1947, at 8:30 a.m. at the age of 57 years, 9 months, and 25 days. Mr. Lawrence has been in very poor health for the last ten years and has been in the Veterans' Hospital in Des Moines several times and also at the Hines Hospital in Chicago. He has been very seriously ill since last March. On December 24, 1921 he was united in marriage to Mabel E. Harlow. To this union one son, Floyd Harlow Lawrence was born. Mr. Lawrence has lived his entire life in and around Brooks, Iowa. He was a veteran of World War I, spending three months in training and nine months overseas. Mr. Lawrence was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. He leaves to mourn their loss, his beloved wife and son, Floyd: one brother, J. S. Lawrence of Corning, Iowa and six sisters, Mrs. Emma Wilcox, Mrs Phoebe Wilmarth, Mrs. Jessie Schafroth, all of Corning; Mrs. Ruby Harlow of Brooks, Iowa; Mrs. Bessie Pell and Mrs. Nellie Bunting of Corning. Having grown up and lived his entire life in the Brooks Community, Mr. Lawrence has had close contact with his many friends and reactives and has won their respect and admiration. He loved his family and friends deeply and enjoyed being with them and doing for them. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 7, at the Methodist Church in Brooks, conducted by Rev. V. A. Bloomquist, assisted by Gene Hoskinson. Music was by Mrs. Estey Huskin and Mrs. Ruth Tucker, accompanied by Mildred Odell. Pall bearers were Glen Van Alstine, Fred Parcher, Albert Reichardt, Fred Miller, Warren Hanna, and George Thompson. Interment was made in the Brooks Cemetery.
