Hak is unique surname used by only a handful of families originally from Rainawari in Kashmir- India. Hak is not a surname in a real sense. The original surname of all Hak families is Tiku. It is said the family once had a large land holding arround their houses, which was leased out to professional farmers to grow a common Kashmiri vegetable 'Hak"(Green Leaf that is similar to leaf over Knol Khol)' As the distribution of this popular leafy vegetable from these feilds widened, people started identifying the familiy with it. As Hak became a symbol of family's recognition, it was adopted as surname.
