About Bernard Joseph Beste
Bernard J. Beste, 77. Krakow, died Wednesday, March 31, 1993, at St. John's Mercy Hospital, Washington. He was born March 2, 1916, at Krakow, son of John C. and Cecelia R. (Westhoelter) Beste. He received his education at St. Gertrude's School, Krakow. On May 20, 1939, he married Mabel Nieder at St. Gertrude's Church. Mr. and Mrs. Beste owned and operated the Krakow Store from 1948 until they sold it in 1987. Mr. Beste was chairman of the rural fire department committee for building the Krakow Firehouse. He was a member of St. Gertrude's Church, the Married Men's Sodality, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 2661, American Legion Post 218, Union Moose Lodge,1745, Kiwanis of St, Clair, St. Joseph Infirmary, the Franklin County Country Club, and the Western Catholic Union. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Rudy and Joseph, and two brothers in infancy, and one sister, Irean Lause. He is survived by his wife, Mabel six brothers and four sister-in-law, Al and Harry Beste, and Tommy and wife Shirley, all of Krakow, and James and wife Mary Agnes, and Robert and wife Dorothy, and Adolph and wife Laverne Beste, all of Washington,, one sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Herman Frankenberg, Krakow, two sisters-in-law Meredith and Lorraine Beste, both of Krakow, and brother-in-law Felix Lause, Washington, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral Mass was held Friday, April 2, at St. Gertrude's Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Beste family was served by Nieberg and Vitt Funeral Home, Washington.
