About Carl Ludwig Knudson

Carl was the second born in the family on Oct. 3, 1875 and he died on Aug. 16, 1904. . He attended Detroit Lakes High School. Carl took the exam for West Point and got the highest test score of his competitors

but due to political influence, one of the other next high scorers was appointed.

In 1894 Carl took a trip toShipley , Fla. and later joined a group intending to colonize in Georgia. He was stricken with the fever and then returned home. In 1896 he went to Montana and after a year there he returned home and worked in the Audubon Hardwre store. Tha fall he volunteered in the Spanish American War, but when he reached Minneapolis he was told that the quota was filled. So he returned to the hardware store.

In 1900 Carls chest trouble worsened into Tuberculosis

and he went to Arizona and Colorado to improve his health.

Carl returned home in May of 1904 and he died two weeks later on June 4, 1904. He was 29 years old at the time.
