About Alf Cornelius Knudson
Alma's memories continue with child number seven, Alf C. was born Dec. 26, 1885 and he died Oct. 31, 1938. He was 53 years of age.
Alf was also artistic and he created a drawing of a river flowing under a bridge that also found favor on the dining room wall. Alf was also a member of the family band and he played the trombone.
Alf enrolled in Akers Business College in 1902. Upon graduation, Alf became the Deputy Auditor for Becker County and when he was 22 years old he was elected as the Auditor of Becker County. Later from 1911 to 1919 he was cashier of the First National Bank of Detroit Lakes. He was later elected Mayor of Detroit Lakes for the next twelve years. He also served as Post master for a number of years until his death in 1938. He died of encephalitis.
During the winter of 1914 and 15 Elma recalled she and Elvira attended High School in Detroit Lakes and during that time they stayed with Alf. Alf was very generous with the two youngest girls giving them gifts and paying for their travels to Miles City, Montana to visit family.
