Children with Mary Bruen
Find A Grave gives his birth date as June 24, 1619]. We need to verify with NEGHS that this has a documentary source.
According to Edward Atwater:
INCORRECT THAT John Baldwin was a son of Sylvester Baldwin.
JOHN BALDWIN (16__-1681) a son of Sylvester Baldwin (d. 1638), who died on the ship Martin in 1638 on the way to Boston, by his first wife, Mary (d. 1652), had seven or more children. He married ___, 1653, Mary Bruen, and by her had seven children, all of these latter through their mother trace back to royal lines and to William the Conqueror.
Mary Bruen was a daughter of Obadiah Bruen (16060-168_), Stapleford, Cheshire, England. About 1667 or 1668 he removed to Newark, N.J., but returned to Milford where he died June, 1681. He was buried June 21, 1681. In his will, made May 24, 1681, he mentions all of his children except Samuel, Mary and Sarah, who had probably died before 1681.

John came to Boston in 1638 with his mother; lived in Milford in 1639, later to Newark, NJ in 1668, back to Milford and lived sometime in Deerfield. He joined the church of Milford 19 Mar 1648, was Sergeant of CT militia in 1658. His homestead was original lot #13 of Milford on the west side of the river, a little northwest of the town hall. His will was dated 24 Mar 1681 and he died before 5 July 1681. He was on the ship "Martin" in 1638. Munsell says he also lived at Stonington, CT. Remembered in the wills of his Grandmother in 1622 and Uncle in 1632/3 and brother in 1634. The late Mr. Chester {who made the remarkably successful investigation into the history of the Baldwin's in England, from which this line the main is taken says that afterning the Bond in 1637, no further trace of John is to be found in England}. As will be, his cousins, Baldwin's, Byran and Stonehill, emigrated to America and it is very likely he was the 'SETTLER" John Baldwin, in Milford, Conn.
John's homestead was original lot #13 in Milford on the Wes t side of the river, a littlehwest of the Town Hall, on th e premises now or lately occupied by Rev. Asa M. Train.s no t a "Free Planter," bit was a Settler, because he was no t a Church member. John,, joined the Church, March 1, 1648 . It seems that John Sr. of Milford was a cousin orw of Sy lvester who died on the Ship "Martin" in June or July of 16 38. John wasm Bucks County, as his childrens names were co mmon there.
