Sovereign Dynasties - Western Europe
- Rev. James Anderson, DD (c.1679/80 – 1739) was a Scottish minister and genealogist, chiefly remembered for his monumental compilation Royal Genealogies (1732). Unknown to many modern genealogists, it is the ultimate source in English for many of the myths that still haunt us.
- Stewart Baldwin, FASG (1950- ) works with the history and genealogy of royal and noble families. He is the compiler of the Henry Project, the goal of which is to trace the ancestry of king Henry II of England, with good documentation. He is also the compiler of Llywelyn ap Iorwerth Ancestor Table, Kings of the Danes prior to 873, and Kings of the Isle of Man.
- Charles Cawley is the director of The Foundation for Medieval Genealogy, a non-profit organization devoted to medieval genealogy and prosopography. He has compiled Medieval Lands ("MedLands"), an "encyclopaedia of territories in the medieval western world and the royal and noble families which ruled them".
- Todd Farmerie is co-listowner of GEN-MEDIEVAL on Rootsweb and a contributor to the Henry Project, the goal of which is to trace the ancestry of king Henry II of England, with good documentation.
- Eduard Karl Heinrich Hevdenreich (1852-1913) Archivist of the City of Mühlhausen in Thuringia, Commissioner for Nobility Affairs in the Royal Saxon Interior Ministry, General Secretary of the Zentralstelle für deutsche Personen- und Familiengeschichte in Leipzig and Lecturer in Genealogy at the Royal Saxon Institute for Culture and Universal-History attached to the University of Leipzig led by Privy Councillor Prof. Dr. Lamprecht. - Johann Hübner (1668-1731) was a German minister, geographer, and historian. He is chiefly remembered for Genealogische Tabellen, a compilation of royal genealogies. One modern historian, noting his credulity, has described him as "not very talented, but very widely read". His work is the original source of many modern genealogical myths. - Eduard Hlawitschka (1928- ) s a German historian whose focus is in the early and high Middle Ages.
- Dr. Katharine Keats-Rohan (1957- ) is a history researcher, specializing in prosopography. She has produced seminal work on early European history, is widely regarded as one of the founders of modern prosopographical and network analysis research.
- Christian Settipani (1961- ) is best known for his work on the genealogy and prosopography of elites in Europe and the Near East. He co-founder and general editor with Katharine S. B. Keats-Rohan of the publication series of the Unit for Prosopographical Research, Linacre College, Oxford University.
- Nathaniel Taylor, FASG (1965- ) has a Ph.D. in Medieval History. He has taught history and interdisciplinary medieval studies at the university level. He is also a co-editor of The American Genealogist.
Ancient Rome

- John Burke (1786-1848) was an Irish genealogist, and the original publisher of Burke's Peerage. He was the father of Sir Bernard Burke, a British officer of arms and genealogist.
- Sir Arthur William Steuart Cochrane, KCVO (872 – 1954) was a long-serving officer of arms at the College of Arms in London.
- James Watson Corder (1867–1953) is a historian best remembered for documenting family history in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England. His volumes are today invaluable to people interested in genealogy.
- Charles Aubrey Hamilton Franklyn M.A. M.D. (25 August 1896 – 26 November 1982 (aged 86)) was a British medical doctor, and scholar of genealogy, heraldry, and academic dress.
- Michael Gandy A well known personality in the family history community, Michael Gandy is the editor of the Genealogists’ Magazine, the author of many books on the techniques of genealogy, and an accomplished after dinner speaker.
- Sir John Dunamace Heaton-Armstrong, MVO (1888 – 1967) was a long-serving English officer of arms at the College of Arms in London.
- Mark D. Herber is a British author of genealogy, London legal history and family history books.
- Benjamin Incledon (1730-1796), was an English genealogist.
- Sir Thomas Innes of Learney, GCVO, WS (1893–1971) was the chief heraldic officer of Scotland. He served as Lord Lyon from 1945 to 1969. He is best remembered for Scots Heraldry (1954) and his revision of The Clans, Septs and Regiments of the Scottish Highlands (1952).
- Sir Iain Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 11th Baronet, CVO, QC, Ph.D. (1919-1985) was a Scottish genealogist and officer of the Scottish heraldic court. He wrote a number of popular books about heraldry and clans, including The Highland Clans (1967).
- Charles Gordon Mosley (born 1948) is an author, broadcaster, editor, and publisher, best known for having been Editor-in-Chief of Burke's Peerage & Baronetage (106th edition) and of the re-titled 107th edition, Burke's Peerage, Baronetage & Knightage.
- (John) Horace Round (1854–1928) was an historian and genealogist of the English mediaeval period. He translated the Domesday Book for Essex into contemporary English. As an expert in the history of the British peerage, he was appointed honorary historical adviser to the Crown. He is particularly notable for de-bunking many old myths.
- Henry Reed Stiles (1832 – 1909) was a physician who wrote a number of highly regarded historical records and genealogical books during the late 18th and early 19th century
