If a profile you manage is added to this project, it is because the tree is already on Geni and the extra work of merging the profiles and fixing data and tree conflicts outweighs the additional information that merging might bring in. The duplicate profiles have been Isolated as Duplicates which prevents them from being merged into the Geni One World Tree and will soon be sent to Geni for deletion.
For pre 1600 profiles please see the medieval duplicates Project and Discussion
For post 1600 profiles
What should you do now
- Compare the duplicate profile to the original profile - and add any additional data, photos, documents, sources, family, information to the original profile - and then, if you are the profile manager, delete the duplicate profile
- NOTE: please don’t delete profiles if you are not the profile manager
- if you believe the information (or the family connections) in the original profile is incorrect, start a discussion from the original profile outlining what you think is incorrect, what you think it should be and why and add your sources to the original profile.
- if you really want to have your name as one of the managers of the profile, request management of the profile, making sure that you outline why adding your name as profile manager would be beneficial to the profile and outline your relationship to the profile. Geni automatically approves close family management requests.
What should you NOT do
- do not add more profiles or sources or information to isolated trees as this is a waste of your time as the isolated duplicate tree will be deleted after a period of time.
If you believe that the tree / profile has been isolated in error and that merging it in will bring significant value to the original profiles (and you are prepared to do all the merging and fix all the conflicts resulting from the merges) start a discussion in this project and tag the original profile and the duplicate profile and outline why you think they should be merged.
NOTE
This project is not for profiles that have been isolated for any other reason than duplicates.
