The Dowling family goes as far as Ireland and as close as Bamberg SC. The Dowling family is a very huge family that comes in different shades of color. A lot of information has been left out of this family tree, my tree. Yes, I am a Dowling. Let's talk about some of the secrets of my 4 great-grandfather Dr. Elijah Henry Dowling from Barnwell County known as Bamberg SC. Dr.Elijah H. Dowling was an assistant surgeon in the Confederate Army. Last he got into the cotton business. To earn a living in this business during the 1800s he owned 47 black slaves " My numbers may be off a little"..Despite all the horrific things that came with being a slave, Dr. Elijah H. Dowling son of Col.Decania Dowling, he birth a male son with his female slave named Rachel Way. This son was named Alexander Dowling who married Jane Atterbury. They then had children named James, Lula, Eddie, and Rebecca Dowling.
I'm a black man and my grandmother was Alonia Dowling.
