ARCHIBALD DUNLOP
Archibald Dunlop, here treated, is the son of James Dunlop of Garnkirk and his first wife Lillias Campbell. He is reported to have been born on 31 July 1709, and to have been named after Archibald Roberton of Bedlay. [Newsletter of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Family History Society, No. 47 Autumn 1996, page 16] His baptism was registered on 4 August 1709, at Cadder parish in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The baptismal record reads as follows: "Archbald laull son to James Dunlop of Garnkirk baptised upon the fourth day of agust 1709 years witneses thereof William Dunlop brother german to the said Laird of Garnkirk and John Ray Merctt in Glasgow". Death and Burial
A date and place of death has not been identified for Archibald Dunlop, here treated. His death was registered at Glasgow on 20 June 1719, although it is not yet clear if this is the actual date of his death, or simply the date of his burial. "The accompt of the Mortcloth money in the year 1719. June 20th. ffor the best Mortcloth to Archbald Dunlop son to the Laird of Garnkirk . . . . . 04. 16 [National Records of Scotland, Cadder Kirk Session, Accounts 1687-1737, reference CH2/863/5]
An entry in the accounts of Cadder parish dated 25 June 1719 suggests that he may have been buried there, because the parish clerk received four pounds eighteen shillings for the use of the best mortcloth. The entry reads as follows: “ffor the best Mortcloth to Archibald Dunlop son to the laird of Garnkirk . . . . . 04. 18”.
