Profiles

She was of 350 tons and skippered by Master John Mason. Built at the Thames in 1786. She operated in England until 1797 when her registration was transferred to Fort Royal, Martinique, after which, little is known.

Her first journey was as a convict ship with the First Fleet. She initially carried around 31 marines, 16 marines wives, 6 children, 25 crew and 47 female convicts with 2 male convicts being transferred to the ship from the Scarborough. (Note: Ancestry.com lists 51 convicts on the Prince of Wales, University of Woollongong also lists 51 convicts) The "Prince of Wales" arrived with 62 female convicts + 3 children + 2 male convicts

On the journey the following deaths were recorded, 24/11/1787 a crew member drowned, 1/12/1787 Yorgan YOUNGINSON crew member drowned, 24/7/1787 Jane BONNER convict died, 5/8/1787 John HARTLEY convict died, 10/1787 Mrs James MAXWELL marine wife died

2 children were recorded as being born to marines wives on the journey
