James Dunlop, 4th of Garnkirk

JAMES DUNLOP OF GARNKIRK

James Dunlop of Garnkirk, here treated, is the eldest surviving son of James Dunlop of Garnkirk and his wife Lillias Campbell. [Newsletter of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Family History Society, No. 47 Autumn 1996, p. 13] He was born on 9 July 1697 and his baptism was registered on 29 July 1697, at Caddet in Lanarkshire, Scotland. His Nephew

His nephew, Alexander Peter, merchant burgess of Glasgow, in a disposition and settlement dated 6 September 1803, instructed his trustees to pay one hundred pounds sterling to: "Helen, Margaret, Mary, and Grisel Dunlops, daughters of the deceased James Dunlop, eldest son of James Dunlop of Garnkirk, my uncle". Marriage

James Dunlop of Garnkirk married Henrietta Maxwell Scotland Marriages, 1561-1910 Their request to have proclamation of marriage was booked at Cadder parish in Lanarkshire, Scotland, on 9 June 1722 and they were married there on 22 June 1722. The marriage record reads as follows: "June 9th (1722) James Dunlop of Garnkirk in this paroch and Hendoretta Maxwell daughter laull to George Maxwell of Southbar in the citie of Glasgow had their purpose of marriage three several times orderly proclaimed and no objection being made against the same they were married here upon the 22d day of June".
