origin
The name “KROLL” is from the Slavonic word of the pre-7th Century “krol” meaning king. Over time, the name evolved to mean curly or ringlet (Middle High German “krol,” Middle Low German “krulle,” Middle Dutch “croel” / “crul”). The family branched into several houses: German, Dutch, Polish, etc. Numerous variations include Krol, Croll, Krole and Krull, among others. Likewise, descendents have been Catholic and Jewish. The earliest known example of the surname recorded in any spelling is probably Klaus Krol of the City of Lubeck in 1339
