Burmeister Genealogy and Burmeister Family History Information

Burmeister is about like SMITH in N. Germany. There are over 700 Burmeister's in Holstein and more in the country side. Many were farmers from the low lands including what is now Denmark. "Burmeister" is the maker of the largest generators in the world and they also build ships in Denmark. In America many came because of the Kaisers relentless military requirements in the 19th century. They came with the German immigrants in the 1860's to 1900. They settled in the midwest and became staunch Americans and were often discriminated against because of WWI and WWII. Most changed their Lutheran worship services from German to English during this time.
