About the Craven surname

There is a District in Yorkshire called The Craven District and it is here that many, if not all, of the Craven names will have originated. In this case the name derives from an old word for the wild Garlic which was particularly prevalent in this district.

It does not appear to have anything to do with the word "craven" as used to denote "cowardly".
