As a child I was told the old world spelling of our family name was Kramar. Many times when one could not spell their surname, one was written for them. When my Dad went to school, the teacher spelled the name Cramer, this was probably the phonetic spelling the teacher gave them. When visiting Slovakia in July 2009 the grave makers in the cemetery of the village where my Grandfather grew up were all Kramar, pronounced Cram-are.
