Establishing the "B" generation DVNs

South African Stamvaders/Progenitors (SV/PROGs)

The purpose of this project ...

...is to establish that the "b" generation (the first generation of children who were born of the stamvaders/moeders) - in the de Villiers numbering system, (DVNs) are correct (at the same time determining whether the numbers as published is SAF/SAG are correct or not). If there is a discrepancy there needs to be documentation/sources shown to establish otherwise, and that information must be noted on the profiles involved and in the SAG Irregularities project.

If the "B" generation is considered to be correct then where used the de Villers Numbers (DVN's) of subsequent generations can follow correctly.

PLEASE NOTE Geni does not want these numbers to be recorded in the suffix field - they should be added to an additional field names SA deVilliers numbers. More information at South African Profile guidelines

This exercise needs more than a curators' participation to carry it out effectively - we need volunteers to work hand in hand with one another. If you wish to get involved please add the name of the SV/PROG you wish to work on in the list below to show your intention, with your name alongside it. If you wish to collaborate with another user please invite them to join you, adding their name as well.

Where SAF/SAG and/or Genealogies of Old Cape Families are the only sources that support the "b" generation it is acceptable to add the following to the "about" field -

"B" generation established in accordance with SAF/SAG and/or OCF - no dispute recorded. Please contact managers if this information is not correct.

Curators can move that note to the Curator note when the fields are locked.

How to Proceed

When you are working on a particular SV/PROG's first generation of children please add the SV/PROG's name to the list below, with your name alongside so that others know that his tree is being processed.

When you have finished the work (added sources/verification to all "B" generation profiles for the SV/PROG you are working on), add a ✔ (copy and paste), and a note to say that a curator needs to MP profiles. Alternatively contact a Curator to MP and lock the fields. Also add a profile to the list if that line needs attention so that someone can pick it up and help. Once all actions have been taken, and the the SV/PROG's profile has been added to this project, the name can be removed from the list below to make way for new ones.

The number of SV/PROS is too great to list them individually below. If they have been added to this project (not listed below) it can be assumed that those lines have been checked.
