In most cases, this names comes from England. Some lineages , however, have surfaced as having been Brecht from Germany, with the attending story that Brights of England left that country due to religious persecution, and migrated to Germany, whereupon the name changed to Brecht. After several generations, the New World of North America opened up. Opportunity was seized by one Widowed Brecht Mother with her two sons, who then went to America. After several generations in PA and VA, some descendants changed their name (back??) to Bright. Are there any Brechts in America? Probably. Have some fun and "google" it!!
