This is my present belief which is not set in stone.
WESTER Families are not all the same family. There are many different places that have wester as a part of their name. Since surnames are often derived from the location where a family lived the name WESTER is not one family.
In the case of my WESTER Family there is good evidence that in America there was a name change from Westray. Therefore I believe it might trace back to Westray one of the Orkney Islands off the northeast cost of Scotland.
Do a search of the interesting history of Westray in the Orkney's and their Norwegian connection.
My most recent DNA map of a rough estimate of my ancient lines includes Norway. (Don't put too much importance on such DNA maps. They change and become more accurate as the DNA data base increases. Mine show slight changes over time in 3 maps.)
